Giclée

The Digital Department offers complete Giclée printing services to our artists and photographers. We provide full digital image capture, color correction, proofs and final output on a variety of papers including Somerset Velvet Watercolor paper, PremierArt Water Resistant canvas, UltraSmooth Fine Art paper and more.

We use a full line of Epson products from printers to inks to substrates. The system we use is the same that is being used at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Nash Editions, Manhattan Beach, CA.

Our Process: The Digital Department's UltraGiclée's are made from high-resolution digital photographs with the aid of state-of-the art digital technology. Our digital imaging specialists carefully color match the printed reproduction against the original work of art in our collection thus ensuring the highest degree of fidelity.

The Technology: After extensive testing on various large format color reproduction systems, The Digital Department has chosen the Epson Stylus Pro 7600 wide format ink-jet printer for reproductions of our artists work. The Epson Stylus Pro 7600 can print up to 24" wide and uses long lasting pigment inks. These pigments are capable of faithfully reproducing even the subtlest fine art. They also have the advantage of being one of the most archival ink sets currently available. Independent tests done by Wilhelm Imaging Research, the leading testing lab for the longevity of color printing materials, predicts that prints made with the Epson Stylus Pro 7600 Ultrachrome pigment inks, framed with UV Plexiglas under normal indoor lighting conditions, will last over 100 years before any noticeable fading occurs. The inks used for printing posters and the dye based inks used in the Iris ink-jet printers will not last nearly as long. Also, while it is not recommended that any fine art color print be exposed to ultra violet light for extended periods of time, the Epson pigments are far more resistant to UV light than dye based inks.

The Digital Department's UltraGiclée's are reproduced on a variety of Epson Fine Art papers including:

- UltraSmooth Fine Art paper, a 500g/m2, 100% acid-free cotton rag, archival paper.

- Epson PremierArt Water Resistant Canvas, a 350g/m2, 19mil, 100% acid-free cotton archival quality base canvas.

- Somerset Velvet Watercolor Paper, a 255g/m2, 100% acid free cotton rag archival paper.

These papers have an ink-jet coating that is engineered to give the highest resolution and color saturation achievable with current digital printing technology.

The Difference: The Digital Department's UltraGiclée's are faithful reproductions of original works of art, printed in-house by our digital imaging specialists.
